Description: | "A discontinued post office in northern Clay Township. Named for a Mr. Hyde who resided there. It is spelt Hydesburgh on the map of 1844 and Hydsburg on the 1878 county atlas. Westmore mentions Hurdsburgh, ""on the state road leading from Palmyra to St. Louis."" He undoubtedly meant Hydesburg, since the road mentioned originally went through Hydesburg." |
